Kamero Desktop App for Windows: Upload Event Photos from Your PC
A lot of event photographers edit on Windows: a desktop PC with a big monitor, Lightroom Classic and a stack of external drives. Kamero Admin, the Kamero desktop app, runs on Windows as well as Mac. This guide covers installing it on a PC and the Windows-specific details that make large uploads go smoothly. For the full feature list, see the Kamero desktop app page.
What you get on Windows
The Windows app has everything in the web dashboard plus five desktop-only features:
- One-shot upload of a folder with subfolders: Pick one parent folder and the whole event is queued in one go. Each subfolder becomes an album named after it.
- Background upload: Uploads run in the app's background queue while you keep working. No browser tab has to stay open.
- Upload queue with auto-resume: The queue survives closing the app or restarting your computer and resumes automatically when you reopen it, without uploading anything twice.
- Up to ~10x faster uploads than the browser: Many photos upload in parallel. The ~10x figure is Kamero's internal measure, not an independent benchmark.
- Bulk download: Download all photos from an event straight to your computer, one folder per album.
Upload speed: Kamero's internal measure, not an independent benchmark. Real speed depends on your internet connection, file sizes and computer.
What you need
- A 64-bit Windows PC.
- A Kamero account (the same login you use at login.kamero.ai).
- A stable internet connection. Wired Ethernet is best for big uploads.
- Your edited photos exported to a folder, on the PC or on an external drive.
Install Kamero Admin on Windows
- Download
Kamero_Admin.exefrom the desktop app page (or the download link in your Kamero dashboard). - Open the file from your Downloads folder and follow the installer. You can tick the option to add a desktop shortcut.
- Launch Kamero Admin at the end of the installer, or later from the Start menu.
- Sign in with your Kamero account. Your events, albums and settings are already there.
You only install once. When a new version is released, Kamero Admin lets you know it is ready to install, so you don't have to come back to the website to check.
Upload a Lightroom export from your PC
Export one parent folder for the event with one subfolder per album, for example:
D:\Exports\Sharma-Wedding\HaldiD:\Exports\Sharma-Wedding\SangeetD:\Exports\Sharma-Wedding\Reception
- In Kamero Admin, open the event and click One Shot Original Upload.
- Choose
D:\Exports\Sharma-Wedding. The preview lists the photos found in each subfolder, so you can check the count before you start. - Start the upload. Haldi, Sangeet and Reception are created as albums automatically, and the photos go up as originals (2 credits each, up to 50 MB per file).
- Carry on working. The queue runs in the background, retries failed files automatically, and resumes by itself if you close the app and open it again.
Only need one album, or want Standard quality (1 credit per photo)? Open the album and drag the photos in from File Explorer instead. Subfolders inside the album folders (for example Reception\Selects) aren't scanned by one-shot upload, so keep one level of album folders.
Windows tips for big uploads
- Stop the PC sleeping. In Windows power settings, set the PC not to sleep while it is plugged in, at least until the upload finishes. A sleeping PC pauses the upload; if Windows restarts for an update, reopen Kamero Admin and the queue resumes.
- Keep external drives connected. The app reads each photo from where it is stored, so don't unplug the drive or card reader until the queue is done.
- Don't worry about hidden files. Windows creates
Thumbs.dbanddesktop.inifiles, and drives used on a Mac carry._files. Kamero Admin skips all of them, so they never use your credits. - Large files are fine. Files over 50 MB, which the browser has to compress or skip, can go up as standard uploads from the desktop app.
- Check for failed files. Before you share the gallery, look at the queue for anything marked as failed and retry it.
More than an uploader
Kamero Admin has the same features as the web dashboard, so on your PC you can also manage events and albums, create QR codes, get Kam-Sync camera credentials, set up watermarks, handle Sell Photos orders and check your reports. After delivery, Download All saves every album to a folder on your PC or an external drive. Client favourites work the same way as in the web dashboard.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a Kamero app for Windows?
Yes. Kamero Admin, the Kamero desktop app, has a Windows installer (Kamero_Admin.exe) for 64-bit Windows PCs. It is a free download and you sign in with your Kamero account.
Is the Windows app different from the Mac app?
No. Kamero Admin for Windows and for Mac are the same app with the same features: the full Kamero dashboard plus one-shot folder upload, background upload, an upload queue with auto-resume, up to ~10x faster uploads than the browser (Kamero's internal measure) and bulk download.
Can I upload straight from an external hard drive or SSD?
Yes. Choose the folder on the external drive with One Shot Original Upload, or drag photos from it into an album. Keep the drive connected until the upload queue has finished, because the app reads each photo from its original location as it uploads.
Do I need the desktop app to use Kamero on Windows?
No. The Kamero web dashboard works in any modern browser on Windows. The desktop app is recommended when you upload hundreds or thousands of photos at a time, or files over 50 MB.
What happens if I close Kamero Admin or restart my PC during an upload?
The upload queue is saved on your PC. When you open Kamero Admin again and sign in, it checks which photos already reached Kamero and resumes the rest automatically, without uploading anything twice.
